The “world’s slimmest smartphone,” Gionee Elife S5.5, will launch on March 18 in China, followed by a launch in India on March 31. The phone was first unveiled last month at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, and it has created quite a buzz since then.
At 5.5 mm thick, the Gionee Elife S5.5 is a full 2.1 mm thinner than the iPhone 5 and 1.68 mm thinner than the Motorola Droid Ultra. The phone weighs a mere 130 grams, which is roughly 4.5 ounces.
The Elife S5.5 features a 5 inch display, but there is no word yet on the resolution for the screen or the display quality. The phone comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. Because of its size, there is no room for additional storage in the device.
When it comes to market, it will cost CNY 2,299, which is about $374. This is less than most new iPhones when they are first introduced, if you choose to buy one without a contract. The phone will be available in black, white, pink, blue and purple.
