Verizon Offers Discount to Customers Bringing Own Device

· Written by John Oldshue

Verizon decided to join T-Mobile and AT&T by offering discounts to customers who have their own phone.

Last week, Verizon announced that new customers can add any smartphone they already own to a “More Everything” plan for either $30 or $15, depending on the data allowance they choose.

In addition, existing customers who are on month-to-month contracts can move to a “More Everything” plan to save money. Customers who choose a plan with data allowances of 8 GB or below can add a smartphone for $30, a savings of $10.

Those who choose plans with data allowances of 10 GB and above can add a smartphone for $15, a savings of $25.

The phones must be compatible with the Verizon network to qualify for a lower rate on the “More Everything” shared data plan.

When T-Mobile first introduced this idea with its UnCarrier plan, they offered phones on installment plans in exchange for lower monthly rates. After a person paid off the phone, you could continue to enjoy the discounted plan. Verizon and AT&T attempted to do the same last year, but they left off the monthly discounts. AT&T corrected that back in December, and now Verizon has decided to do the same.
